Tawny - The Extinct Collections

Tawny Phillips launches her Extinct collection this Christmas. Tawny has gone back in time and dived into the deep blue sea and the freshwater streams to create her exclusive designs. She works with preciosities dating back from over 3 million years such as the fossilized Mako sharks teeth, her Bronze pieces are inspired by the Bronze Age period and her black freshwater pearls are a real rarity. MAKO The Mako shark is an immediate ancestor to the modern Great White Shark; Phillips uses their teeth to adorn the heavy silver neck chains, bracelets and key chains. The teeth are very rare as each one is gathered by divers from the Chilean coast in the Pacific Ocean; each magnificent piece is unique and has its own special qualities. AGE OF BRONZE The designer has dedicated precious time developing the Bronze collection which includes the historical fashioned cross pendants, rings and cuffs. Phillips has created several finishes to choose from; select scratched, matt or hammered. Bronze is a third lighter than silver and has been significant to any culture that encountered it. It is one of the most innovative alloys of mankind. The bold large crosses sit on leather thongs or hang from a rope of black pearls. THE BLACK PEARL The Black pearl is an interesting story with each piece of jewellery being totally unique to the next. Each pearl has its own particular colour, texture and shape highlighting their special qualities, this collection is available in long threads to wrap around the neck, single line threads worn as bracelets with sturdy bonze hooks, the pearls dress bronze and silver rings and crafted heavy cuffs. THE BLACKENED SILVER STORY This story offers a dazzling collection of black freshwater pearls, blackened Silver and stunning black diamonds. Blackened Silver sits in synergy with the Bronze story, black crosses, rings and cuffs which can be worn with the pearls, sit on their own or be styled with black diamonds in either a twin setting, a scattering or a full glaze which will only be for those who love some understated bling! QUOTE: Tawny Phillips says: “I love working with organic materials as each piece is unique. Flaws become points of interest and add character to each handmade item. I like to incorporate them into a design rather than disguise or discard them. The imperfection of an organic material coupled with a medium like bronze provides me with the opportunity to create complimentary textures and contrasting features. I think that people who wear my jewellery understand that they are wearing something that cannot be exactly replicated ever again.” Prices range from £65 and upwards to £45,000 Tawny sells to a selection of stores, however is available for private and bespoke commissions: contact 405 communications in association with David Weston Represents for further information on 0207 749 0596 or Suzanne@405communications.com Editor’s notes Background Tawny Phillips had a terrific start when she sold her graduate collection to Donna Karen, in 2004. Since then, she repeatedly worked for Paul Smith creating collections of men’s and women’s silver and sterling silver jewellery, culminating in the exclusive Triumph Motorcycle Silver collection which was showcased internationally. Paul Smith has not worked on whole collections with just one designer for many years; this achievement is a credit to Tawny Phillips talent. In 2006, Lane Crawford in Hong Kong bought her shark tooth collection.
